Toti bowlers send pins flying at KZN tourney

AMANZIMTOTI Tenpin Bowling Club reports that the tenpin bowling year is rapidly reaching the halfway point, with only a few games remaining to determine the champions.

Monday night still sees High 5’s in pole position from the Unbowlievables and Pulse in third.

Highest games from last week and congratulations go to Saleem Jagot for his 253. Other high scores include Pierre du Plooy on 246 and Ricky O’Hare with 235. Among the women only Stacey-Lee Hooper exceeded the 200 cut off with a 213 game. Soho league congratulates newcomer, Sue Conlan for lying first for May on a +41 followed by Chalkie White on -3 and Gwen Hayward -12.

Thursday, despite missing dad Len Elbourne, the Master Blasters team of Bronwen Elbourne and Brad Rorke continued to show the others how to bowl. They are followed by 3’s a Crowd and Hooligans. High scores were only achieved by the women of this league with Bronwen reaching 258 and Cheryl Hambrook and Gwen Hayward on 233 each.

Among the juniors, the first two placing went to girls, with Amber Powell making a welcome return to lead the way on +77 followed by Sue Bhagwandin on +73 and Eathen Irmscher on +17.

Phantom league saw a new name in first place for the week when Vanessa Usserold bowled 448 to relegate Lighty Holmes (416) into second place and Rory Wishart (409). Cumulative for the month still shows Lighty first from Rory and Vanessa.

Staff league weekly result was Duane Harmescec on 433 in first place from Angi Pretorius 412 and John Short 405. John is still in overall first place currently.

Sunday league’s Zain Woodroffe (2722) leads from Jivi Sewcharan (2568) and Gita Soorjalal (2546).

Monthly meat was won by Hennie Fouche, the only bowler to achieve a + figure from Carol Farrow and Ricky O’Hare, who also won the highest scratch award.

The KwaZulu-Natal mixed doubles tournament was held over the weekend, a compulsory tournament for bowlers wishing to participate in the national championships to be held later this year. It attracted the cream of KZN bowling.

ATBC and Dolphin bowlers performed extremely well, filling all three positions in both the scratch and masters divisions.

The scratch tournament was won by Stacey-Lee Hooper and Andrew Cyster by 66 pins from Rina and Wayne Cyster who were 70 pins ahead of Suki Studzinski and Dylan van Berkel. Masters winners were Cheryl Hambrook and Ricky O’Hare by 113 pins from Louisa Nienaber and Frik van Niekerk who were 17 pins ahead of Julie Foley and Saleem Jagot.

June is always a busy time in the bowling calendar with tournaments every weekend this month, starting with interleague on 8 June and midnight marathon on 13 June.
