Rural creche make-over makes it liveable

Hamba Kahle Road Products renovates creche.

Pupils at a rural creche are now housed more comfortably, thanks to the renovation of their building.

“eThekwini South Lions Club has been assisting the Masibumbane Daycare Centre in KwaMakhutha since October, after Dominee Pik Pienaar of the Amanzimtoti NG Kerk contacted us to see what we could do to help the creche,” said PRO, Mandy Roux.

“Nestus van Niekerk of Hamba Kahle Road Products, an ex-Amanzimtoti Lions Club member saw an article in the Sun and contacted me to do renovations on the buildings for free as part of his company’s social upliftment project.”

The creche now boasts a new corrugated roof, the walls, which sported gaping holes because of a white ant festation, are repaired, all the broken windows have been replaced and the building has a new coat of paint.

“We were donated floor tiles, which we will lay down and we will hang curtains. Many of the 26 pupils’ parents work, so many of them sleep in the building.”

The Lions have previously donated food and pillows to the creche.

Members of the Lions club were invited to the creche for a braai by Nestus and his workers on Tuesday, 20 May to view the hard work they had done.
