Electric fence fails to deter burglars

Thieves slacken wires of fence.

THE public is warned to be vigilant, as electric fences no longer seem to be an effective deterrent to criminals.

A Sherwood Crescent, Toti home owner was shocked at brazen thieves who slackened the wires on an electric fence and climbed over a wall, without activating the alarm on the fence.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 27 April, fortunately while the home owner was away.

“After entering the property, they forced open a closed window and kicked out the burglar guard. The passive alarm on the window did not activate.”

The thieves did not switch on the lights, instead they lit matches to search for valuables in each room. “I found the burnt out matches. I was lucky to be visiting a friend at the time.”

After stealing a radio alarm clock and other electronics, they made their escape through the front door, which activated the alarm. The home owner intends to beef up security.
