Easter drive thrills children’s home

Children's home receives donation for Easter.

THE KZN Enviroserv family visited Umzamo Children’s Home in Adams Mission during Easter to bring some joy to the little ones who live there.

“We love to do community outreach and this year we thought of an Easter drive for one of the homes located in our area. We found several homes, but chose Umzamo as it does not get any funding from the government, but survives on donations from the community,” said Mbali Majola of Enviroserv.

She said Easter is one of those holidays like Christmas where families come together over warm meals and little colorful treats. “In all of that fun we also remember those who are not as blessed, and spared a moment to share a little warmth and fun with them, even if just for a little while.”

Company representatives received a good, but wary welcome. “We handed over blankets to keep them warm during winter, some groceries and something sweet. The children’s faces lit up when it was time for the Easter egg hunt, they scurried around and made sure no rock was left unturned and every egg found.”

Two women look after 10 children at the home. “They are strong women who instill religion, morals and values into them and keep them in line. “The little we contributed helped bring smiles and full tummies. It has given them hope to know there are people out there who care.”
