Warriors need help to revamp new base

Primate sanctuary relocating to Hibberdene.

Rainbow Warriors needs the public’s help to restore a property it has permission to use as a training lodge.

“Our training division ‘Dreamskills’ has been travelling along the KZN, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Overberg coastlines, administering training in communities and schools in a variety of animal awareness programmes and workshops,” said Rainbow Warriors’ Terrance Olivier.

“This has been a costly and sometimes dangerous exercise for the team. Due to travel and living out expenses, often the team sleep in vehicles or camp in unsafe environments. Our team and participating learners have frequently been intimidated by dog-fighting syndicates, poachers or gangsters because we are infringing on their ‘business’.

We were offered a property in Hibberdene, rent-free, which is ideal for us to use as a mini camp to teach youngsters about animals and offer workshops to the public to educate people about animal cruelty.”

Unfortunately looters have vandalised the property. “If you or your company are in the position to donate material and equipment, it would be greatly appreciated,” said Terrance.

You can also assist by buying a brick at a cost of R100, which will go towards repairs and labour. “When you purchase a brick you can choose the colour of your brick and you can send a dedication to a lost or loved one (pet or human) and it will be laid on our gratitude wall.”

The training lodge will not only cater for school-going children, but also for adults and corporate groups who want to learn more about pet crime and the link between animal abuse and other forms of abuse.

“We are also in the process of relocating the Darwin Primate Group from the Tsitsikama Forest to the training lodge in Hibberdene. We will move and donate all the primate cages to rescue centres in KZN. However, these cages are large and bulky and we require them to be moved by truck.” If anyone is in the trucking or removal industry and can help, contact Terrance on 073-694-7934 or email dreamskills1@live.com.
