Cllr reports back on municipal issues

Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge has reported on a number of municipal follow-ups.

“Following concern expressed with the Umdoni Bird Sanctuary being largely overgrown, management committed to have the overgrowth pruned back,” he said. “We are also in discussion with senior management to ensure the necessary supplement of food is available for the upcoming winter months.”

Coastal Engineering confirmed the repair and extension of the stormwater pipe, south of Subway Road in Winkelspruit, which was damaged by unknown individuals who made a fire inside the pipe, has gone out to tender.

Faulty lights in the subway bridge connecting Elcock Road and Kingsway has been reported and should be repaired soon.

“The long awaited concrete pole 13, damaged during a 2013 accident in Isundu Road, has been replaced with a steel pole. Requests have again been logged to have pole 246 in Kingsway, opposite the Total Garage, as well as those vandalised in Golf Course Road replaced,” said Cllr Beetge. Report faulty street lights to 080-131-3111.

“Council begs more patience in replacing the AC water main in School Road with a steel line that should signal the end of water problems experienced in the area.” Expected date of completion is the end of April. Report water related faults to 080-131-3013.

The number three waste water pump station in Riverside Road, next to the river has received attention and is again fully functional.

Exercise caution and patience while street surface repairs are being done in Nelson, Umdoni, Hutchison, School and other roads in the area.

Durban Solid Waste’s education department has committed to engage cardboard collectors and supply education on using the Pollock Road collection point, instead of several bushes along Link and Rosslyn roads.

Metro Police issued several citations for vehicles being washed in public streets and several warnings for illegal street trading.
