UPDATE: Stabbing victim speaks out

Knifemen stab man at his residence.

A ST WINIFREDS resident was stabbed 11 times when he fought off two would-be burglars at his Winifred Drive home in the early hours of Monday, 31 March.
“I was asleep in a downstairs bedroom when I heard a noise at about 1am. I saw a man climb through the kitchen window and I charged forward to push him out, but he held on tight to the wall. I dragged him in and was beating him up when I felt a punch on my back,” said the resident, who did not wish to be named.
Unbeknown to him, one man had already entered the house. “The punch was a stab wound. I sustained wounds to my face, chest and left upper arm.” As he fought with both men, his wife was alerted to the fracas. As she walked down a wooden stairway, her footsteps scared the burglars away. “I think when they heard her footsteps, they expected the worst and ran off.”
The attack happened within minutes and some 25 minutes later, he was rushed to Kingsway Hospital by a neighbour. He was kept under observation and after X-rays were taken, he was discharged at about 6pm on the same day.
“My family is terrified, we are currently increasing security.” He is convinced the same men could have been involved in a break-in at the house some four weeks ago, when wallets and handbags were stolen. “If you attack an intruder, make sure you are armed.”
According to Capt Thulani Zwane of the KZN police media centre, Amanzimtoti police are investigating a case of attempted murder. No arrests have been made.
