Couple celebrate milestone wedding anniversary.

MOOI HAWENS couple, Pieter and Martie van Deventer celebrated 63 years of marriage on Monday, 17 March.

“Martie literally crept under my arm outside church in Johannesburg, that’s how it all started,” recalled Pieter.

They met on Guy Fawkes Day and tied the knot five months later on St Patrick’s Day.

The couple have resided at the retirement centre for the last nine years.

Pieter (90) described his marriage as a happy one. “We have had a full life, we enjoyed ourselves. We have been blessed.”

Their union continues to endure, although they are on separate floors at Huis Lena, as Pieter visits Martie every day.

During their working years, Pieter worked in maintenance at clothing factories for 47 years and Martie was an administrative officer.

His advice for youngsters of today is to live life to the fullest and to enjoy themselves.

The couple have three children and four grandchildren.
