Nautical B sails through pool challenge by Ollies

Warnadoone A team’s hopes were dashed as Ollies A took the last two points in the doubles.

SAPPHIRE Coast pool league results from Wednesday, 19 March:

Silver Dollar A and Sapphire Coast A were even by the end of the second round. The third round saw Sapphire Coast A smash through, taking all the points on offer in that round. Silver Dollar A reciprocated with the same, to even the score. There was tension in the air as the doubles began. The determination of Sapphire Coast A in the doubles took all the glory out the door and Sapphire Coast smiling from ear to ear with a tough, well deserved 10-8 kill.

Nautical Mile A’s damage to Boardroom A happened in the first two rounds when, playing away, Boardroom, only managed to win one of their eight games. They held their own at least with even scores in the next two rounds, but hopes of an away team win was dampened even more as the doubles games were taken by Nautical Mile. A grand full house by Hercules du Preez, with team mates Juan van Zyl and Gerhard Coetzee each taking three of their four games, gave Nautical Mile A’s a very comfortable 13-5 victory.

Silver Dollar B came with a vengeance to Warnadoone D. Killer accuracy games from away player Rudy left Nicole Winter white-washed and gave him first blood for his full house. Andries Coetzer won three of his four games. It was an easy 12-6 victory for Silver Dollar B.

It was a total annihilation when Moulin Rouge’s A team played against Warnadoone B. Chris Kennedy, Mark Macfarlane, Pierre Boonzaaier and Vincent Post swept the floor, with the away team not leaving a crumb. A magnificent Moulin Rouge A 18-0 victory.

Through nail-biting games, Warnadoone A and Ollies A team were evenly matched. By the end of the fourth round, the home team Warnadoone A was holding on to a two-point lead. Megan Brett took three of her four games for Warnadoone A. Warnadoone A team’s hopes were dashed as Ollies A took the last two points in the doubles, to score an even, face-saving draw.

Ollies C took Moulin Rouge B to task as they only allowed a single point to be won with each round. Pieter Alexander scored a grand full house with Phila Mhkize and Njabulo each taking three of their four games. Moulin Rouge B did more damage in the doubles games leaving Moulin Rouge B with a 14-4 walkover.

Sapphire Cove B and Moulin Rouge D’s first round ended in a draw. By the end of the third round, the teams were even. At the end of the next round, the home team led by two points. Val Storbeck scored a nifty full house to no avail. Val’s doubles game which partner John Laas, could have tied the match. After clearing the table, she blew the game by sinking black and white with a perfect cut on the black and leaving the home team with a cheeky 10-8 victory.

Ollies B and Warnadoone C’s first round played out even. Ollies B only allowed one point loss in the next three rounds. Levin Poonan scored a grand full house with team mates Ashlin Pillay and Dillon Chetty each only giving away one point. Both doubles won left Ollies B with a comfy 13-5 win.

Ollies D had a relaxing evening against Nautical Mile B as they sailed through each challenge, losing only one singles game to Nautical Mile B. A double doubles win left the devastated Ollies D suffering under a brilliant 17-1 annihilation.
