“Don’t feed the bird park fauna”

Toti residents are urged not to feed the birds in Umdoni Bird Sanctuary.

That’s the word from ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge after residents expressed concern the municipality does not seem to be feeding them.

“In an attempt to assist, we engaged the eThekwini Natural Resources Department, as well as other wildlife groups,” said Cllr Beetge. “All appear in agreement that the bird and other wildlife within the park are supposed to be left to feed off nature and not become reliant on being fed by either the municipality or third parties.

While food may at times be supplemented, it must not replace or cause the animals to refrain from feeding off the natural habitat.”
