Clarity over gun laws

Let us now be vigilant and remove, legally, these offensive shooters.

EDITOR – A lot has been mentioned in the media recently about people shooting with air guns and pellet guns.

Please note that The Firearms Act 60 of 2000, Section 120, paragraph seven states that: “It is an offence to discharge a firearm, an antique firearm or an airgun in a built-up area or any public place, without good reason to do so.”

This therefore gives the public permission to report the shooters to your local police station. Take the details of this Act with you, as many officers are unaware of this law.

The definition of an airgun in the Firearms Act 60 of 2000, Section 1 (ii) states ‘airgun’ means any device manufactured to discharge a bullet or any other projectile of a calibre of less than 5.6mm (.22 caliber), by means of compressed gas and not by means of burning propellant.

Let us now be vigilant and remove, legally, these offensive shooters.
