Policing agencies leave rowdy revellers to their own devices

Is it not about time that every one should have a good hard look at who and what they vote for.

EDITOR – On Thursday, 26 December in Amanzimtoti, the eThekweni traffic department decided to close off the access to Link Road and Inyoni Rocks Road to prevent taxis entering Beach Road.

This caused a major snarl-up in Kingsway southbound. Some motorists resorted to making U-turns across a barrier line to escape the mayhem.

At 5pm the officers left, not to be seen again.

At 8pm the taxis were driving any which way they wanted to, using Rogies Park as a pick-up point and totally blocking the intersection of Link and Beach roads.

I phoned the Metro Police (South) asking for officers to be sent out to control the traffic. Nobody arrived.

At 10.15pm I phoned SAP Amanzimtoti also requesting someone to be sent out to control the rowdiness of the revellers. The taxis were playing music at full volume and people were shouting, whistling and clapping their hands while they were just bouncing up and down.

Now we have this loutish behaviour every year at this time and it was bound to also happen again on New Year’s Day. My question is: What are the law enforcement agencies planning or even trying to do about this mayhem? Or is it just simply the case that they are only there to collect a packet of money at the end of the month, just as each and every government department employee does.
