Scottburgh panto gets children involved

A TEAM of enthusiastic locals and pupils of Umkomaas Primary School have joined together to entertain locals and holidaymakers to Scottburgh through an interactive pantomime show, 'The Disappearing Presents'

“Presented by Scotties Panto, a non-profit organisation, the parents and children in the audience work together with the actors and actresses on stage as they devise a plan to catch the 'baddies' who steals the 'hopes and dreams' of the good people. Needless to say the parents have just as much fun as the children as they enjoy good wholesome family entertainment all in the spirit of Christmas and charity,” said Wendy Janssens of Scotties Panto.

The show takes place at the Scottburgh Country Club fields in a tent with hay bales for the children to use to capture and bring down the 'baddies'.

“The purpose of our fundraiser is for everyone to bring a present for our charity box. We also ask that you bring a present for Father Christmas to give to your child at the end of the show. The gift should be no more than R30.”

Admission is R20 per person, which covers the cost of tent hire and hay bales. The shows are on Friday 13 December at 6.30pm; Saturday,14 December at 3pm and 6:30pm and Sunday, 15 December at 3pm.

“Initially named 'Uncle Scottie', the show was held for the first time in December, 2009, where we raised funds for the Scottburgh Round Table and collected gifts, which were distributed to a children’s charity. In 2010 we secured our own non-profit organisation number (NPO 089-700 ) and changed our name to Scotties Panto. The purpose of the show will be to continue to entertain and collect gifts for our children’s charities. These charities are Umzinto Child Welfare; Khumbula iKhaya place of safety and GJ Crookes Hospital. These are the main beneficiaries, other charities benefit depending on how many gifts we receive.”
