Shooter targets Doonside flat windows

Doonside residents of a block of flats were irked after a number of windows were shot at in the past 10 days.

Body corporate chairman of Zeezicht flats, Rene Rooth say that altogether three flats have been targeted with six windows being shot at. “I suspect it could be an unruly child that’s shooting at the windows with a pellet gun,” says Rene. Amadonia flats which is next to Zeezicht has also been targeted.

On Thursday, 31 October Zeezicht resident Gerhard van Rooyen’s flat was also targeted. Gerhard was sitting in his lounge with his bird Guru when a metal bullet broke through his window at about 5pm. “I think it could be from a sling-shot. It looks like something I used to use in my childhood days,” said Gerhard. The 75-year-old’s flat was again shot at on Saturday, 2 November, also at about 5pm.

Residents also took to the Sun’s wwww.looklocal.co.za Amanzimtoti website to voice their concerns.” I am the complex manager for Key Largo. We have a security guard in the evenings. The security guard has a guard room next to the bottom gate which is opposite Amandonia. The window of the guard room was hit and shattered. The security guard said that he saw two boys in their mid-twenties on the third floor of Amandonia with a kettie and believes they are the culprits,” said Guy Berichon.

Incident reports have been filed with the police each time a shooting occurs. “I just want people to be aware that there is someone out there, maybe this person needs help. People in Zeezicht fear for their safety and are afraid to use the walkways,” says Rene.

If anybody has any information regarding the shootings, contact the Zeezicht body corporate on 031-903-5023.
