Work experience pair get newsroom insights

GOING to school is not all about learning how to add and read.

It’s the start of building a career. A career that has to last a lifetime. We, as Kingsway students, came to the Sun newspaper to find out if journalism is our calling.
Naledi Kubheka found herself interested in journalism as a new and exciting way to be a writer. “What I found most interesting about the experience was having the opportunity to compile a story from an interview. It was also quite the experience to see a blank page being brought to life, to be the newspaper page we skim read every Thursday.”
Naledi caught the writing bug through being someone who couldn’t easily express herself vocally. “Finding out that I’m not too bad at it, essentially made me fall in love with it. Personally I prefer quieter activities such as reading and I’m generally a listener as opposed to being a talker.”
Since Courtenay Ellish was a child she always knew she wanted to tell stories.  “I’ve always secretly loved writing, but I really want to travel and make documentaries. I really enjoyed my time working on different articles, meeting new people and getting insight into their everyday lives. Being pushed out of my comfort zone was something I enjoyed the most. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I wouldn’t have done my work experience any other way, but for now I will stick to my shorter days at school.”
