Problem areas to be rooted out in clean-up campaign

Get behind another Toti clean-up campaign.

Toti Conservancy urges all local organisations and residents to get involved in a coastal clean-up on Saturday, 21 September.

“September is Clean-up Month in South Africa and we will concentrate our clean-up from the Umbogintwini River to the Karridene River,” said Toti Conservancy’s deputy chairman, Rev Andrew Manning.

“This is more than just a litter campaign. We want to identify problems areas and get the relevant people involved to solve these problems. This is about how the community can get involved and help. We want to look after the environment, because this is about all of us.”

Already Amanzimtoti Rotary Club, Wessa, all three Toti Lions clubs, the Church of the Good Shepherd and St Mary’s Anglican Church, and Toti and Twini Scouts have put their weight behind the project. The Lions clubs will concentrate on the area from Warner Beach to Winkle Beach, the churches from Winkle to the Illovo River, the Scouts from Toti Lagoon to Shad Place, Wessa the promenade and Rotary from the promenade to the Umbogintwini River mouth.

“We want to get schools and more churches involved,” said Rev Manning, who can be contacted on 082-370-4702. “The focus will be from Kingsway to the shore and it will deal with other issues which soil our town. A cleaner Toti is better for our tourists.”

Toti Conservancy’s next meeting is on Monday, 19 August at Lords and Legends conference centre.
