UPDATE: NEW PHOTOS Five die, injured airlifted from N2 crash site

UPDATE: A Toti Fire official has confirmed that the death toll for the N2 crash this afternoon was in fact five.

Four people burnt to death in the one vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle also died. He was extricated by Toti fire crew using hydraulic rescue equipment.

Previously reported:
Four people have died, while another two were critically injured in a head-on crash on the N2 South at Umgababa this afternoon. Another two people were seriously injured.

Police  closed the freeway to allow for a helicopter to airlift some of the injured to hospital. It is believed one vehicle crossed the centre median and collided with another head on, resulting in one of the vehicles bursting into flames.
