Adrian shines on the sports field

TOTI is fast becoming home to up-and-coming rugby stars.

Adrian Maritz was recently selected to represent the Southern KZN U19 rugby team as a prop. “The trials were tough but I’m happy I made it through,” said Adrian.

The Amanzimtoti High grade 12 pupil was the only player from the Toti area selected for the Southern KZN side at the trials held in Port Shepstone in June.

The 18-year-old rugby enthusiast started playing rugby in grade 6. “I saw people playing rugby and thought I’d give it a try,” said Adrian. He sees Bulls player Dewald Potgieter is someone he looks up to.

Adrian has also been selected for the Vikings Academy in Margate, where he will study something sports related next year. The avid Bulls rugby supporter says that family support has got him this far. “My mother is behind me all the way,” said Adrian.

“I am of course extremely proud of any achievement he makes, no matter how big or small. He has always played rugby with his entire heart. To say he lives for rugby would be an understatement,” said Natalie

Watch out for this upcoming rugby star – there may be a future Os du Randt in the making.
