All roads lead to ACC MTB Challenge this Sunday

It’s finally here, the race all MTB enthusiasts have been waiting for – the Dafco MTB Challenge, hosted by Amanzimtoti Cycling Club on Sunday, 1 July. Want to try something a bit different, or have you never entered a MTB event before? Give this local race a try.

The route starts from Amanzimtoti Sports Centre in Riverside Road and runs through coastal forests over 11 bridges along Amanzimtoti River. The day is made up of three events. The first one being for juniors which is 2x4km laps (8km) and is not at all technical. Starting time is at 7.30am.

Prizes for both men and women in this event are the same, with the first finishers receiving R300 vouchers, second R200 vouchers and third R100 vouchers. The second, intermediate event starts at 9am and this comprises of 4x4km laps (16km) on the same route as the first event. Prizes for both men and women are the same. First male and female R450 cash, second male and female R350, and third finishers R200.

The main race is for the more technical riders who want to race. It comprises 4x8km laps (32km), incorporating the route used by the shorter events with an extra 4km route added on with more inclines, switchbacks and bridges. This race starts at 11.30am. The winnings, also identical for men and women finishers, is R750 for first, R500 for second and R300 for third.

Online entries are available at www.roag.co.za. The first 100 online entries receive a free race T-shirt. There are goodie bags for the first 200 entries. There will be loads of lucky draw prizes from a MTB bike to zip-line and scooter ride vouchers, sport bags, sport watches, golf shirts and much more. There also also lots of great spectator points and fun for the whole family.
