SPORT teaches youngsters camaraderie, team spirit, discipline and the value of being good sportsmen and women. Sports against crime is a way for children to stay off the streets. By encouraging children to play sport, they have a chance to build friendships and learn the importance of being a team player.
Ezimbokodweni Sport Committee hosted yet another successful tournament which was sponsored by the Umbogintwini Industrial Association (UIA). With 32 teams in the under 23 divsion and 16 teams in the under 15 in the soccer showdown, competitive players were keen to show their soccer skills on the pitch. The first part of the tournament played in the second week of March. The semi–final and final was in played over the Easter weekend, from 29 March to 1 April at Ezimbokodweni Sport ground. The under 23 final was played between Cosmos FC and Moja FC, Moja took home the spoils winning 3-2. In the under 15 division final, FC Lads beat Zakhele FC 2-1.
In the netball showdown, Movers defeated Swinger18-15.
The tournament was well supported by young and old. Chairman of the tournament, Nkululeko Makhanya thanked the UIA for their continual support. “The major aim of this tournament is to encourage youth to participate on sports and stay away from crime and to promote football to the youngsters who might be ready for the bigger league in the future,” said Nkululeko.
