HUNTSMAN’S pigment company was honoured for its efforts in supporting the local community and managing its impact on the environment.

Tuesday, 23 April marked a proud day for Huntsman’s when its pigment manufacturing company was awarded the prestigious Huntsman’s 2012 chief executive award for innovation and sustainability.

Site director, Jon Howlett was joined by Huntman’s senior vice-president for EHS and corporate sustainability Ron Gerrard to celebrate the award. The event, held at Umbogavango Nature Reserve was also attended by Huntsman associates, customers, suppliers and local dignitaries.

The pigment site won the award in recognition of its transformation programme to help ensure the company’s sustainable economic future.

The prizes for this award comprised of R150, 000 and a trophy. The money from the award will be used to support the local community.

Gerrard said: “This award recognises the unique things Huntsman associates around the world are doing to help create a better world through innovative solutions for society.

I am honoured to be able to recognise the work of my colleagues at Umbogintwini who have won this award for their range of community programmes, their care for the local and aquatic environment and biodiversity, and for ensuring the site can operate profitably and viably throughout the business cycle.”

Jon Howlett believes the award also belongs to Huntsman associates past and present, as well as stakeholders of the business.

“The prize money will be used to continue our support for education in the underprivileged areas around us,” he said. “Huntsman will continue to be a responsible member of our community, working together for the better of our environment, business relationships and the communities around us,” said Howlett.
