A man believed to be a policeman at the Isipingo police pound was arrested after he was linked to a robbery in the Pietermaritzburg area on Friday, 16 June.
Durban dog unit members received a tip-off about the armed man who was travelling towards Durban after allegedly robbing a business.
After spotting the getaway vehicle, a car chase ensued through the Shongweni area where the man opened fire on the officers.
He was arrested with the help of a police dog and has an unlicensed 9mm pistol and a police scanner in his possession.

He was taken to hospital under police guard.
“We can confirm that a 35-year-old suspect was arrested for business robbery. He appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 June and the case was remanded to 3 July,” said Lt Colonel Thulani Zwane of the KZN SAPS media centre.
