It’s all about nature for artists’ monthly session

Artists are going to attempt some landscapes, so take along up to four photos or references of landscapes.

THE Upper South Coast Art Association will hold its March meeting in the activities hall of the Amanzimtoti library on Saturday, 18 March.

The meeting will begin at 1.30pm and end at about 4pm, with refreshments supplied for a small fee.

The demo this month will be on how to paint floral pictures. It will be given by Karen Denyschene, who will be promoting Golden acrylics. Do not miss this opportunity to see Karen work her magic on her canvas.

The afternoon meeting will be preceded by a drawing session, which is open to the public at no charge. The drawing session will begin at 9am and end at about noon.

Artists are going to attempt some landscapes, so take along up to four photos or references of landscapes. Try to include all the elements of nature, including mountains, trees, perhaps a stream and/or boulders, open plains and so on, as well as perhaps a dwelling or some buildings.

The medium that artists will be working with is either watercolour for background, and graphic tools to complete the drawing, or with charcoal/pastels, so ensure you have the appropriate paper to work on, as well as rough paper for warming up exercises and rough work. If you do not yet own a drawing board, try to get one – masonite can be cut to size at most hardwares.

And as this is all about drawing, take along your drawing tools – pencils, pastels, charcoal, kneadable eraser, an ordinary eraser and so on. Don’t forget to only work in yellow, red and blue.
