Five gunmen drove right in and held a domestic worker at gunpoint

A SNAEFELL Road, St Winifreds home was set upon by five gunmen who drove right in and held a domestic worker at gunpoint on Monday morning, 27 February.

At about 11.30am, the five men entered the premises in a white Audi.

They opened the front gate to the driveway and drove in. On entering the house, they found the domestic worker busy upstairs. Pointing a gun at her, they ordered her to lie down on the floor before they ransacked the main bedroom and broke open a small safe inside the wardrobe.

As they went the bedrooms in the rest of the house, the domestic worker managed to run to the bathroom and lock herself in.

A tenant who stays in an outside room heard a noise and went to check. When she noticed the suspects inside the house through the window, she shouted to warn the gardener before locking herself in with her grandchild.

The gardener ran to the front of the house, where he encountered one of the armed men. Another emerged from within the house and pointed his gun at the gardener, who ran out of the front gate to the neighbour’s house.

During the robbery, there was a grey vehicle parked outside the house in the street. The gunmen fled with a television set, two computers, various pieces of jewellery and men’s watches.

Amanzimtoti detectives are investigating the house robbery.
