How long do Toti burglars take to break in?

Heavily armed gang robs Ilanda Road house.

Four minutes.

That’s all the time it took for four armed men to rob an Ilanda Road house on Friday morning, 20 January.

Amanzimtoti residents are warned the gang carrying out such robberies is heavily armed.

They gained entry into the premises by cutting the lock on the front gate, breaking the lock on a security gate and chopping open the front door.

According to the home owner, Marlene le Roux, they chopped into the door frames to bypass a security gate and locked door in the passage.

As Marlene and her husband were away at the time, their daughter Tracey received a call from their security company to say the alarm had been activated. A neighbour also witnessed the men reverse their silver VW Polo into the yard at about 10am and get out, carrying firearms and gloves.

A tenant on their property heard the commotion of them breaking in, but fortunately missed the intruders as they made a quick getaway.

They found the couple’s safe, but failed to open it. As most of their attention was on opening the safe, they only got away with a TV and some of Marlene’s jewellery.
