Winkle SLC flag flown high with good achievements

THE past two weeks have been accompanied by proud achievements at Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club.
Firstly, Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club (SLC) is proud of its senior team who achieved a fifth place at the recent KZN lifesaving champs held at Amanzimtoti two weeks ago.
The team was the highest placed South Coast Club at the competition. Star performers were Gene Prato, second in the Iron Man as well as second in the double ski with team mate Gareth Hazell, Tyler Main second women’s beach sprint and third women’s flags, Dana Erasmus second women’s flags and the women’s beach relay team achieved a third place. Well done to Tyler, Dana, Bianca Potgieter and Brittney Luther. Next is the turn of the junior team this Sunday at KZN junior champs in Durban, where some great results are sure to be achieved.
Then it was onto lifesaving examinations last Saturday, where Cole Nel, Kegan Lloyd, Michael Land, Bryce Land, Deidre Bentley, Kaylin Techet and Kelly Fell passed their senior lifeguard awards. The nippers were also in examination mode with Dylan Engelbrecht, Tamsin Ahlers, Wade Erwee, Lauryn Erwee, Jordan Kloke, Miguel De Sao Jose, Jayson Fryer, Shianne Turner and Jarrod Fisher passing the relevant nipper exams. Well done to all.
This past Sunday it was also the turn of the nippers at the nipper carnival in Durban, which was compromised by blue bottles with most sea events being cancelled, and all the beach events being held.
First places were achieved by Tiaan Lyon, Keith Ward, Lanesca Esterhuizen with many top six placings being achieved by the rest of the nipper team.
The club also bids farewell to club captain Brendon Alberts for a period still to be confirmed as he heads off to Cape Town to do a sea rescue course. If his dedication and enthusiasm are anything to go by, he is sure to do very well.
The club also wishes Kegan Lloyd success in his endeavours as he represents KZN U16 in shore angling in the Mossel Bay area over the next week. Tight lines.
