Two drownings in one day

In a separate incident, paramedics responded to a drowning at Dakota Beach in Isipingo.

Two drownings took place on the same day in the greater Amanzimtoti area on Tuesday, 27 December.

Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha said paramedics responded to a drowning incident at Umkomaas Beach in the afternoon.

“Reports from the scene indicated that a man in his 30s had gone into the surf to swim when he landed in a rip current,” said Botha.

“Paramedics from Netcare 911 and the provincial services arrived and found that a doctor had pulled the man from the surf.

Tragically, the man was declared dead at the beach.”

In a separate incident at about 6pm, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a drowning at Dakota Beach in Isipingo.

‘Listen to lifeguards’

“Reports from the scene indicated that a man in his 40s had gone for a swim in the river mouth when he disappeared under the water,” said Botha.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the lifeguards had started CPR. Tragically, despite all their efforts, the man was declared dead at the scene.
