Keep Toti fireworks-free

Locals have declared Amanzimtoti a fireworks-free zone.

Fireworks Action Campaign Toti (FACT) welcomes holidaymakers to Amanzimtoti.

“Thank you for choosing Amanzimtoti as your holiday destination this year,” said Fact’s Lee Lewis.

“We are proud of our little hamlet next to the Indian Ocean and kindly request you obey the law while still having fun on holiday and heed the following warnings.”

Locals have declared Amanzimtoti a fireworks-free zone – fireworks may only be detonated for 30 minutes from 11.45pm on 31 December to 12.15am on 1 January and at no other times.

Should you come across someone breaking the law in this respect, call Metro Police on 031-361-0000. It is the right thing to do.

Fireworks may not be sold by street vendors such as the informal traders who sell avocados and doilies at the main beaches. If you buy fireworks from them, they will lose their trading license and their means of income.

“Our stretch of coastline boasts many species of wild animals and birds which we want to protect and preserve. The use of fireworks disturbs their habitat which means they will find another, safer home.

Here’s to a peaceful and relaxing festive season, which all of us richly deserve.”
