AGM heralds AAC change of guard
Members took part in the Stainbank BMG 15km run and 10km run/walk this past weekend, with some goods results in this tough race through the nature reserve.
AMANZIMTOTI Athletics Club (AAC) had its AGM last week and it bids farewell to outgoing chairman Des van der Merwe, treasurer Belinda Stange, club captain Chris Stange, secretary Johnette Coetsee and member Marco Coetsee.
The club thanks them all for all their work over the past years in building the club to where it is today.
The new committee voted in are:
- Chairman Alan Payne;
- vice chairman Martyn Clark;
- secretary Jodine Momberg;
- treasurer Cecilia Brown;
- club captain Warren Gibson;
- club captain for walkers Sheila Dry;
- club trainer Riaan Vosloo;
- members Bethel Mutanga, Thobikhile Zama, Steven Msomi, Jo-Anne Rooschuz , Mandlakhe Mzimela and Chantelle Webber.
The annual prize-giving for the juniors and seniors was held on Saturday and the committee thanks all members and parents for attending this event. The committee congratulates all the prize winners and wishes all the athletes good luck for the following year. Work hard and you will reap rewards.

Upcoming races: 11 December, Illovo Sugar 15km Christmas Challenge 15km run/walk at Westville Athletic Club. Race starts at 6am. The club urgently requires members who wish to take part in the Westville Christmas Challenge on 11 December to contact Elizabeth on 072-384-0187 or Thobekile on 076-474-0342 as they need to start making outfits.
Note that reflective belts are mandatory for time trials.
Weekly time trials are on Wednesdays at 5.30pm for walkers and 6pm for runners (both over 4km and 8km). Visitors are always welcome to join in and should meet at the clubhouse at Hutchison Park. On Saturdays there is an 11km run and walk from the clubhouse at 5.30am for walkers and 6am for runners. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served afterwards.
