No to fireworks

THE Amanzimtoti tribe has spoken and the verdict is no more fireworks over the festive season.

“We call on people from the greater Amanzimtoti area – now is the time to do the right thing,” said Fireworks Action Campaign Toti (FACT) chairman, Lee Lewis.

“Report any informal trader, shop or person selling fireworks via email to totifireworks.campaign@gmail.com. You may remain anonymous.

Strict laws are in place to govern the sale of fireworks and these have to be abided by.”

Fireworks may only be used for 30 minutes from 11.45pm on New Year’s Eve to 12.15am on 1 January, according to the South African Explosives Act.

“After more than six years since the inception of FACT, it has become abundantly clear that the community in the greater Amanzimtoti area are against the use of fireworks, simply because we are a law-abiding and peace-loving community.

Thousands of people have signed our petition and many other towns have followed suit by also starting anti-fireworks campaigns.

So put action to your words and help us spread peace, tolerance and goodwill this festive season,” said Lee.
