10-year old theatre ace to make the hills come alive

A slew of awards have ensured young Ethan has his mind firmly set on a career in the arts.

Toti local, 10-year-old Ethan Abrahamse is sure to dazzle when he walks on stage as Kurt von Trapp in the Playhouse Company’s production of the famed musical, The Sound of Music.

The talented, uber bright and cheery tyke is a force to be reckoned with, and his resume reads like the life work of an adult who’s had decades to notch up several successes in both the theatre and musical world.

The bright pupil developed a love for singing after he belted out a Christmas carol at age six, in pre-school.
Fast forward just four years, and he has several accolades under his belt – he graced the stage in the lead role and sang a solo in his pre-school play and landed the lead as the Cat in the Hat in Toti Primary’s rendition of a Dr Seuss musical production.

He made his TV debut doing a pen commercial destined for the Indian and USA market, alongside cricketing hero Sachin Tendulkar and a week later, featured in yet another TV commercial for ‘Go Daddy’.
Ethan found his voice in the big way in the ‘Talent Africa’ competition where he finished 1st in his category and 3rd overall out of 150+ contestants. The prolific boy of many talents is now a member of the FPASA Performing Arts and in recognition of his many accolades, Ethan has been awarded KZN colours as well as South African colours in the performing arts.

In March, he raked in several awards at the Talent Africa nationals with his haul including a clean sweep of five gold medals for all the items he entered; a glass medal for being top 10; a trophy for junior overall vocalist and a trophy for first in his age group. He was awarded the Talent Africa Idol and Talent Africa Face 2016 award, having entered the modelling category as well.
He was selected to close the final show with an astonishing “Tomorrow – Annie” performance.

In the New York leg of Talent America, he was awarded medals and three trophies for vocals and photographic print. His potential was recognised by scouting agents and some big names in the industry – making him ever more hopeful of realising his dreams to pursue his dream of performing in the USA.

A slew of additional awards have ensured young Ethan has his mind firmly set on a career in the arts.
His voice full of eagerness, the sweet and humble chap said: “I’d like to thank my parents and my coaches and everyone else who has supported me and believed in me while I’ve been performing.”

He played Elvis Presley in his primary school’s musical this year and was adamant that “I just do it” when asked about how he maintains his energy levels to ensure his success both on stage and in the classroom.
