Help fill 2,000 festive stockings with food

Many children go without meals between academic terms.

Play the part of Santa this Christmas by helping to fill 2,000 Domino Christmas stockings that will be delivered to 50 KZN creches for the Domino Foundation’s early childhood development programme.

“As government feeding programmes close over school holidays, the sad reality is that many children go without meals between academic terms,” said Cheryl Dann of the Domino Foundation Feeding Kitchen in Amanzimtoti.

“To help our community members in the most effective manner, each of the 2,000 children who are part of the Domino Foundation’s creche programme will go home with gift bag filled with valuable non-perishable food items.”

Individuals, work-teams and social clubs are encouraged to get involved by purchasing a reusable Domino gift bag, filling it to the brim with Christmas goodies and dropping it off at the Domino Foundation by Wednesday, 9 November.

“Our Toti kitchen is still very new but we are fully on board with all the activities that the head office in Durban North do.

We look forward to getting involved with the Christmas stocking initiative this year and I hope the corporate companies get on board with this. There are so many little ones who go hungry over the festive season. It is really heartbreaking.

We want to get the word out that there is a sandwich kitchen in Toti, so that we can feed more hungry children. We are currently feeding four schools and two crèches and since April we have made 13,479 sandwiches. How great it is to know these children are being fed.”

To support the stocking initiative, view the list of crèches at www.domino.org.za and select which establishment you want to adopt. You can also adopt a portion of a crèche depending on the number of stockings you can fill. Purchase a custom-made Domino stocking at a cost R25 for each child. These draw-string bags will be reused as a carry bag for crèche children next year.

Your stocking will have the crèche name, age of child and inside, a list of items needed for that age group.

Simply fill the bags with life-saving food stuffs averaging R115.

Feel free to add in any extra treats to help make these holidays special.
