Barking mad over neighbour’s dogs

My neighbour is fully aware of this issue and closing holes in his walls has made not a jot of difference

EDITOR – South African dog owners need to come to the realisation that it is their responsibility to ensure their animals are trained properly and do not cause a risk to the public.

It is also their responsibility to have consideration for their neighbours by controlling their dogs from constant barking day and night that can cause battles with their neighbours and create bad feeling.

For almost 18 months we have been subject to a daily barrage of non-stop barking from the time our neighbour leaves at 7am to when they return in the late afternoon. As both my husband and I work from home, it has caused us considerable stress trying to concentrate on our jobs.

Along with the constant barking, the dogs have also been getting out into the street several times a week and I feel such pity for the poor, unsuspecting pedestrian who is then attacked and chased. On top of this, a new development over several months has been the dogs now chasing vehicles as they round a dangerous bend, which has resulted in many cars having to screech to a halt and us running out to see that no-one has been injured or killed.

My neighbour is fully aware of this issue and closing holes in his walls has made not a jot of difference as the dogs are terriers that just dig another hole to get out. I also feel pity for the dogs which are obviously bored, unloved or just simply badly behaved due to lack of training and our neighbour cannot seem to grasp this fact.

So, the question is, where are the officers trained to deal with the new noise and nuisance issues in our towns and cities? And why don’t they answer their phones? Much ado was made about the roll out of this new team of officers but we cannot get joy from anyone. I have written to our local councellor for our ward and eagerly await a response. I shan’t hold my breath.
