CONGRATULATIONS to Jeanne Alexander who beat Tokkie de Kock in the final of the women’s handicap singles at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club on Saturday morning, just in time for the AGM and prize-giving.

The AGM had an exceptionally good turnout, and president Alec Stirzaker thanked those who attended as well as those who submitted postal votes.

Alec will continue as club president for a fifth consecutive year. He was unstinting in his praise for the outgoing committee for their tireless work, and also to all sponsors. Note that the new committee and selectors will be posted on the notice board for those who missed the AGM. The club wishes them all a successful year.

Trophies were presented to all the honours board winners, and certificates to runners-up. Nicky Stirzaker was the women’s club member of the year; Ian Mills and Peter Callaghan were men’s club members of the year; bowlers of the year were Greg McLeod and Tokkie de Kock; most improved players were Alan and Linda McGregor; Dave McMillan as chief ‘stirrer’ won the wooden spoon, and Lesley Stephens-Viviers the wooden fork.

In the women’s monthly trips, the winners were Barbara Beamson, Denise Bingham and Amanda Ninow. Runners-up were Lulu Bingham, Elmarie Young and Trish Farmer. Second session went to Doreen Salmond, Leigh Callaghan and Adrienne Robbins. Norma Raath won the 100 board, and Margaret van Belkum won the spider, which made R124 for Hospice.

First session went to Dave Kemp and Jacqui Fouché; and Glen Scorgie and Jackie Holdrick took second session. Greg Veldtman won the mystery prize. Thanks to Allen and Denise for prizes and drinks, and to Duncan for his organisation.

At TGIF Guelfo Cobianchi won the 100 board. Alan Foster’s name was drawn in the attendance draw, but sadly he was away so missed out on the prize, which goes to R450 next week. Glen Scorgie drew the ‘unlucky’ key which did not turn in the lock, however it came with a R100 bonus. Next week’s key is worth R6,880.

Dave Gardner, Herbert Hofmann, Shayne Tocher and Steve Liebetrau were the winners in the men’s mutton. Runners-up were Alan McGregor, Tony Cam, Paul Davies and Gary Wise. First session was won by Denny Denysschen, Kokkie de Kok, Wessie van der Westhuizen and Martin Young, and second session went to Glen Scorgie, Clive Frank, Les Brown and Dave McMillan. The women’s mutton winners were Elsie Walker, Yvonne Wright, Jean Snyman and Debbie Groom. Runners- up were Delysia Mitchley, Sandy Davis, Hester Hankey and Val de Kok. First session went to Doreen Salmond, Elmarie Young, Leigh Callaghan and Adrienne Robbins and second session to Pam Chalder-Royle, Jenny Delport, Jackie Holdrick and Dot Liebetrau. The 100 board was won by Ian Mills and The Damagers.

The Cherry Bell fun bowls morning for the women will be on Saturday, 29 October. Cost is R45 which includes lunch. Dress in red, white or green as there will be a prize for best dressed. More details will be on the notice board, where you can add your name. Happy birthday wishes go this week to Nicky Stirzaker, Phil Perkins and Stuart Pickles.
