Second time unlucky for brazen thief

The man was identified by the home owner as being on the premises the previous day.

A brazen housebreaker who returned to the same flat he failed to gain entry to the night before, was apprehendeded in a combined effort between police and local law enforcement agencies on Wednesday morning, 14 September.

“The complainant was at home at Impala Park in Almond Road when he heard a noise at his front door at about 5.50am,” said Toti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

“When he went to check, the man was already inside his house, armed with a knife.”

The housebreaker had gained entry by forcing the front door open.

As he reached for his knife, the home owner locked himself in one of the rooms and only came out after the thief had left.

He took a flat screen TV, hard drive and cellphone.

The home owner called ET Rapid Response and gave a description of the thief.

Members of the CCPO, ET, Chubb and Metro Police dog unit’s Shawn Jooste launched a search for him.

He was apprehended with a knife and screwdriver in his possession by CCPO supervisor, Rupert Smit and ET reaction officer, Ashley Naidoo in Sugar Road.

The stolen items were recovered and the thief was handed over to Toti SAPS.

A case of house robbery was opened.

The man was also identified by the home owner as the same person who was on the premises the previous day at about the same time trying to gain entry at his back door but not succeeding.
