Toti skaters shine at champs

Toti skaters will next compete at the Cape Town inter-provincial championships next month.

Amanzimtoti skaters glided their way to fantastic results at the Gauteng inter-provincial championships at The Grove Ice Rink in Pretoria from 4 to 6 September.

A compliment of 16 skaters represented KZN.

Of the 16, nine hail from Toti and eight started off their skating careers at Toti Seals Figure Skating Club.

The sparrows section was won by Dane’ De Jongh, who got the Sunday morning competition off to a good start. Fellow sparrow competitor Nadia Bergh took fourth position.

Kaden McKenzie won his section in juvenile boys, giving KZN their second win by the youngest competitors.

Jordyn Huntington of Scottburgh came second in the bronze hawks division and Aquilla Fernandez came third.

Meagan Tancrel came sixth in the pre-novice girls division, which was a highly competitive section.

Jolandri Cilliers of Kuswag Skool came fourth out of nine competitors in a heavily-contested golden eagles section, while Monique Mitchely finished seventh.

Michaela Brown came sixth in the junior women’s section of the competition, completing the South Coast skaters’ results at the competition.

“Our skaters worked hard and skated beautifully, making KZN a proud team,” said KZN coach, Wendy van der Hammen.

“Our skaters will next compete at the Cape Town inter-provincial championships next month from 14 to 16 October.”
