Savages 21km decides Toti’s new champs

The club 21km champs took place on Sunday at the popular Savages Supa Mama race.

AMANZIMTOTI Athletic Club (AAC) is pleased to report the SA cross country champs held last weekend was a huge success with 771 athletes taking part.

The weather was perfect and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Special thanks to everyone who helped and planned the race – without them it would not have been as successful. Well done to all the AAC athletes who took part in the cross country champs.

AAC and former Comrades gold medalist congratulates de Villiers Oberholzer for the bronze medal in the men’s 60+ category. Well done.

The club 21km champs took place on Sunday at the popular Savages Supa Mama race.

For many athletes, this was their first race after Comrades. The Savages race is a tough two-lapper course with some heartbreaking hills. Well done to all athletes who completed the 10km and 21km run times.

The new club champions are:

First woman home Juanette D Oliveira 2.03.32; first male home Thierry Pletinckx 1.26.56.

They were followed by: C Stange 1.39, S Finn 1.40, W Gibson 1.41, S Msomi 1.49, E Luiz 1.54, D Mtungwa 1.56, T Mntungwa 1.58, J Momberg 2.10, M Mzimela 2.14, E Toerien 2.15, C Raasch 2.24, T Castle 2.24.

10km run: A Payne 1.01, B Stange 1.16, J Rooschuz 1:16.

Upcoming races:

20 August SHF Capital Climb Pietermaritzburg 15km run/walk and 5km fun run/walk starts at 8am. Entries close a week prior to event.

21 August Durban Runner Challenge 21km run and 10km run/walk at Durban Runner Athletic Club starting at 6.30am. The club gazebo will be at this race.

28 August Mandela Marathon starts at 6.30am. The club will sponsor the bus and driver the cost will be R50 for petrol. Contact Thobekile Zama on 076-4740342. Money is to be paid in advance.

Entries for the Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon on 16 October are now open. This is a pre-entry race, with the closing date of 8 October. Visit https://www.eventtiming.co.za/gossbalfe.

Club members cannot take part in race. A helpers run will take place where members can use their times as a Two Oceans Comrades qualifier.

Time trial results 4km run: M Ngcobo 17:57, E Luiz 18:53, D Swart 19:54, R Nothnagel 22:02, M Mzimela 24:12, T Zama 24:12, C Clarke 24:12, R Sayer 24:12, A Olivier 37:56.

8km run: T Ngcobo 27:58, B Ngcobo 32:04, S Lungwse 34:54, N Shange 46:35, B Ngcobo 46:35, S Msomi 46:35.

Time trial duties: Should you not be able to do your duties as per the list, make arrangements for a swop.

Note that reflective belts are mandatory for time trials. Weekly time trials are on Wednesdays, with walkers at 5.30pm and runners at 6pm (both over 4km and 8km). Visitors are welcome to join. Meet at the clubhouse at Hutchison Park. On Saturdays, there is an 11km run and walk from the clubhouse at 5.30am for walkers and 6am at runners. Tea, coffee and biscuits served afterwards.
