[PHOTOS] Sanral mum on sinkhole repair timeline

While repairs are already underway, the N2 gridlocks daily

THE South African National Roads Authority (Sanral) has yet to clarify when repairs to the erosion that has claimed the slow lane of the N2 at the Adams Road off-ramp will be complete.

The Sun is also awaiting clarity from the national road authority on what caused the side of the N2 to destabilise during last week’s storms.

A channeled stream which runs beneath the N2 is understood to have swelled  due to the volume of rain during the storm.

When the Sun visited the site on Tuesday afternoon, there was a strong stench of sewage emanating from the stream alongside the N2. Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge had also not been informed of the intended timeline for the repairs by Tuesday afternoon (2 August).

The erosion has resulted in the two lane section of the accident hotspot being reduced to a single lane, which causes gridlock during high volume periods and during the day. On Wednesday, 3 August, a car was rear-ended as it slowed ahead of the sinkhole site at about 6.20pm.
