Dig deep to help SKZNBA team get to SA champs

Each rider needs to raise R5,000 to cover travel expenses, accommodation, meals and kit.

THE Toti public is asked to dig deep in their pockets to support members of the Southern KZN Bodyboarding Association (SKZNBA) as they fundraise to attend the SA champs.

“The SKZNBA will be sending a team of 16 riders and one judge to the 2016 South African Bodyboarding Championships, which will be held in Hermanus in the Western Cape from 3 to 7 October,” said SKZNBA fundraiser, Sian Fellows-Smith.

“This prestigious event is hosted by a different province annually and a team is selected through a series of trials. This year’s SKZNBA team will be captained by Rory Fellows-Smith and congratulations to all team riders selected.

The SKZNBA SA champs team is:

  • Pro division: Rory Fellows-Smith, Storm Prestwich, Codi Butterworth, JC Johnson, Sean Wilson and Martin Grobler (reserve).
  • Drop knee division: Rory Fellows-Smith, Dune Barker and Storm Prestwich.
  • Masters division: Scott Getkate and Heino Nel.
  • Men’s division: Dune Barker.
  • Women’s division: Skye Bothma.
  • Juniors division: Martin Grobler, Codi Butterworth, Jonathan Sequeira, Rohan Nel and Quintin Pretorius. Boys division: Jason Sequeira, Troy Smith and James Commarmond.
  • Team judge: Michelle Imeson.

“SA champs is a costly venture and it is up to the individual rider as well as a team effort to obtain funds required to partake in this event,” said Sian. Each rider will need to raise R5,000 to cover travel expenses, accommodation, meals and kit.

“We appeal to all local business and the public to help in any way possible to get our team to SA champs. We will arrange fundraising events at Clear Water Spur and Panarottis, where our team riders shadow the waitrons for an evening. These events will be advertised on the Southern KZN Bodyboarding Association Facebook page and Amanzimtoti Trader for everyone to help support our fundraising.”

If you want to contribute in any way or would like some more information about SKZNBA, the team or sponsoring, call Sian on 072-038-0954 or SKZNBA chairman, Maria Pistorius on 072-934-6463.

“We are looking for prizes we can use in a raffle, a tank of petrol for the vehicles transporting the team to Hermanus, any form of kit (caps, T-shirts, jackets, bags and towels) or monetary donations as any help will be greatly appreciated,” said Sian.

All team riders are to meet at Winklespruit beach on Sunday, 7 August at 8am sharp for a team meeting, followed by team training.
