Woman mugged while walking her dog

If more people joined CCPO, every street could have foot patrol guards

A WOMAN was mugged in broad daylight in Fynn Road on Sunday afternoon, 17 July.

Helen Wall was walking her dog at about 3.30pm when a man walked past her and tried to rip her gold Krugerrand necklace from her neck.

“My mom was opposite Plantation Grove when she was attacked,” said her daughter Stacey. “When the man realised he hadn’t grabbed her necklace, he lunged at her and pushed her back into the road while he grabbed at it a second time.”

Helen fell back into the middle of the road and hit her head on the tar. When she jumped up to wave down a car, the man ran away.

“My mom was covered in blood and she was taken to hospital where she was kept overnight for observation,” said Stacey.

“The CCPO arrived extremely quickly at the scene and spent Monday looking for the guy who did this,” said Stacey. “Everyone should join the CCPO. If more people joined, every street could have foot patrol guards and vehicles stationed on them to prevent things like this happening again and make our lovely town safe.

Everyone must be careful and don’t wear any jewellery if you are going for a walk. My mum was mugged while walking our dog in broad daylight in a busy area.

She has worn that necklace under her shirt for years and it didn’t even cross her mind to take it off before she left, but it could have cost her life.

If you are approached by someone trying to sell you a gold Krugerrand necklace, please buy it from them and call the CCPO. We will pay you back the money, as the necklace was very special to her.”
