Cricket club gears up for AGM

The club has been given permission to investigate the possibility of refurbishing the original cricket pitch on the soccer field.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club is looking to build on a very successful 2015/16 season in which it fielded five senior and five junior teams.

All the teams competed very well in their respective leagues and as the season progressed, so the number of new players increased.

So much so, that the club is now in the position to increase the number of teams, especially in the under 11 division.

The new season kicks off on Thursday, 23 June with the AGM at 7pm in the conference room next to Lords and Legends. Senior pre-season coaching starts on Tuesday, 19 July with juniors starting on Monday, 15 August.

It is vitally important that all senior members and junior parents attend the AGM. The new season will bring a lot more challenges to the club, as it needs to do justice to the wealth of talent that has been steadily developed within all ranks of the club. To achieve this, a very strong committee is needed and an army of people who are willing to help construct the correct environment where all the players get the opportunity to practise using facilities which are conducive to the development of full player potential. The nets currently leave a lot to be desired, and there is always a shortage of practise equipment.

Toti has a huge pool of cricket talent within its borders to once again make the club one of the foremost in the province but it needs a committee that is up to the task of ensuring that the club is again placed in the forefront of cricket so that potential sponsors see it as a business opportunity and not just a hand out. To make sure this happens, the club requires the commitment of the entire local cricket fraternity to back a committee who are all willing to put in the hard yards to make this happen. Offer your services at the AGM if you feel you can contribute.

The club has been given permission to investigate the possibility of refurbishing the original cricket pitch on the soccer field. If it is to introduce a women’s team plus extra under 11 teams, then the need for more local fields become crucial as it cannot have its junior teams travelling to places where the facilities on and off the field are poor. Once again, an appeal to all women who would like to play in the women’s league for Toti to come forward as soon as possible so that the club can determine if it has enough players to play in the league. Contact either Pieter Venter on 079-777-5810 or Rex Hindman on 072-501-8363.

At the recent prize giving, it was pleasing to see that the competition in all the teams was very fierce. There did not appear to be any runaway winners. Each category had a number of candidates vying for the top spot. In the end, each winner well-deserved their trophy. With the amount of talent available to the club one would expect the competition to be tight, so well done to all the trophy winners.
