Roadies brave the chill with MTB Mambas

South Coast Cycles, which took the rest of the bikes on the club's trailer, quickly got the pregos made and served the much welcomed coffee.

THE weather wasn’t the only thing that changed this past weekend, as the Amanzimtoti Cycling Club roadies decided to change from riding road bikes and join the Mambas to see what all the fuss is about riding a mountain bike.

The plan was for some die-hard Mambas to start at Happy Wanderers, ride to Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve where the roadies and other Mambas would be waiting with fresh, hot coffee and prego rolls.

The die-hard Mambas did meet bright and early on the chilly and breezy Saturday morning and tackled the changeling single track all the way up to Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve. The roadies were put off by the cold weather but some other Mambas however, met at a respectable warm hour, got Pickfords to help with the transporting of bikes and riders and arrived a little later than anticipated.

South Coast Cycles, which took the rest of the bikes on the club’s trailer, quickly got the pregos made and served the much welcomed coffee. All riders rode back down the challenging single track to Happy Wanderers, admiring the resident wildebeest, zebra and blesbok and were treated to some more hot drinks, complements of South Coast Cycles. As one of the Mambas riders said: “Never be put off by the weather, it was a lovely ride”.
