MMA fighter secures knock-out win

Wesley knocked out his opponent in 1 minute 28 seconds in the first round.

Toti mixed martial artist, Wesley Hawkey won his main card event fight at EFC 49 at Carnival City on Friday, 13 May.

Wesley, who is trained by Morne Swanepoel at CombatCoaching.com Gym, knocked out his opponent Brendan Katz of Johannesburg in 1 minute 28 seconds in the first round.

“It was an awesome win in front of a sell-out Carnival City. It was a sweet victory as my opponent has climbed the ladder in the division and put on numerous impressive ‘fight of the night’ performances,” said Wesley.

“He called me out with his last win and I accepted the challenge. I have faced him before and in our first encounter, I also won in the first round. He deserved a rematch due to his impressive performances.”

Wesley said he and his coach worked on a specific game plan, which they focused on during his preparation. “We weren’t too concerned about what he was going to do, but rather on implementing our game plan and controlling the fight.

Training camp was intense as my coach always requires full commitment. He is known for his no-nonsense approach and ensures you are well prepared going into any fight.

I’m now the top contender in my division. My coach and I will decide what the future holds for me and he will make the best decision for me going forward.”

Morne’s Team MMA Fighter will have three athletes compete at the prestigious EFC 50 which will be held at Sun City on Friday, 17 June. They are Cameron Meintjes, Dansheel Moodley and Bill Thusi.

“I’m excited about Cameron as he is on a three-fight winning streak and a win over his opponent in June will put him right at the top for title contention,” said Morne.

“Dansheel will make his debut and I can’t wait to see what he will bring to the EFC. Bill has only recently joined our team, coming off various losses at EFC. He is making huge progress and I’m excited to see what the future holds for him

All three athletes are training hard and supporters can expect huge performances from them on the night.”
