Gus Brown waxes lyrical about Music by the River

The band is hard at work on a new single called 'The Last Time'.

Toti’s Gus Brown will be one of the bands on show at Toti SPCA’s Music by the River fundraiser that takes place at the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre field on Sunday, 29 May.

They will be joined on stage by Tyler Ds, Apparently Jak, Alimho and Storm and The Kickstands.

Gus Brown was formed in 2013 and is made up of Gavin Welsh on vocals and harmonica, Chad Porter on bass, guitar, drums, vocals, xylophone, triangle and fairy bells, Dale Vickery on acoustic guitar with his brother Nick ‘the face’ Vickery on electric guitar and Brett Kenton on drums.

The band is hard at work to record and release a new single called ‘The Last Time’. “We hope to release the single in the next month or so, but we really want to make sure that we get it 100% perfect so there is definitely no hurry,” said Gavin. “We would also like the single to be accompanied by a really great video. We hope to run a competition with the AFDA school for students to present us with a few story lines and the winning contestant will be awarded a prize.”

Gus Brown’s music can be purchased on any online platforms like iTunes or Google Music or streamed on Apple Music or Spotify. The band has recently launched its new website and hard copy CDs can be purchased from its online store at www.gusbrown.co.za.

The band is currently riding high after opening for Mi Casa at the East Coast Radio Big Walk. “We had a really good time at the gig. We were very stoked to be offered the opportunity. We look forward to our appearance at the Music by the River fundraiser this weekend.

Toti SPCA and Carbon Pixie Media and Events do such an inspiring job every year to put on an amazing event for the local community. A lot of effort goes into this event and lots of local companies come on board to make this event great, so come down with your family, bring your own food and drinks, and come and enjoy an awesome day of music chilling on the grass by the river, knowing that your proceeds are going towards such an amazing NPO.”

Catch Gus Brown on stage at 4.30pm for some original songs plus fun, funky covers.

Gates open at 11.30am and the cost is R50 for adults, R20 for pensioners and children aged four to 12-years-old. Children under the age of three get in for free.

Food vendors will be available, however people are welcome to take along their own picnic baskets and alcohol.
