Move valuables out of plain sight

Also be carfeul not to leave your doors open.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) warns residents not to leave valuables near open windows.

“Also be carfeul not to leave your doors open,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey. “Last week a robber walked into a Warner Beach house through the front door which was left open and took a number of items without the home owner being aware of it.”

On Thursday, 5 May at about noon, a bag was stolen from a construction site in Cato Crescent. “Reaction officers from the CCPO and Blue Security chased the thief to Inyoni Crescent, where he disappeared into the bushes.”

CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone followed the thief into the bushes, apprehended him and recovered the stolen bag. The thief was handed over to Toti SAPS.

On Friday, 6 May CCPO reaction officer, Michael Mkhize was returning to Toti from Durban when he spotted a suspicious-looking man walking on Twini Hill. “The man dropped a bag containing speakers and ran towards Orient Park in Isipingo,” said Snodey. “Officer Mkhize called for back-up and gave chase. He unfortunately lost the thief in a crowd, but Metro Police K9 officer Shawn Jooste walked the trail with his canine partner and found a TV stashed in the bushes.”

The stolen TV was traced to a housebreaking that had occured in Burne Road and returned to its owner.

A truck hijacked at Galleria on Tuesday, 10 May was recovered by the CCPO and Metro Police K9 unit in Chelsea Road in Athlone Park on the same day.
