Copper thief disturbed by home owner

He even took the time to cover plastic pipes with blocks of wood to stem the gushing water.

An alert home owner disturbed a copper thief on her property in Gokul Road on Monday morning, 25 April.

“The home owner activated her panic alarm when she discovered the thief at about 5.30am,” said Alpha Alarms communications officer, Krishnee Naidoo.

The man fled after removing pieces of copper pipe from the exterior of the home. An officer responded to the complaint and was given a description of the thief, but could not find him. The man was wearing a green and yellow Bafana Bafana T-shirt and a cap. He was tall with a medium build.

The thief had climbed on hollow blocks to reach the copper pipes. He also dug a trench in an attempt to remove pipes that were covered. He even took the time to cover plastic pipes with blocks of wood to stem the gushing water.

“Residents are urged to be alert to unusual sounds and contact their security service provider or the police to investigate, as criminals use the cover of darkness to commit their crimes,” said Krishnee.
