Mike new mixed singles champ

Thanks to Brad for his generous sponsorship and to Brian Crause who worked tirelessly all weekend to run the event.

TAKING advantage of the cooler weather last weekend, 45 members of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club played off in the mixed singles competition for the Brad Cox sponsored trophy.

This is one of the more relaxed club events, played over two days with players wearing civvies in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry.

Mike Pitchers, Tokkie de Kock, Greg McLeod and Linda McGregor won through to the semi-finals, and the final play-off between Mike Pitchers and Greg McLeod was nail-biting. Every end was tight with brilliant bowls being played by both men. Greg took an early lead, but halfway through, Mike made a comeback. Mike eventually won the game and the trophy, with Greg coming second in the competition. Third place was won by Tokkie de Kock, and fourth by Linda McGregor. Well done to all players for treating the spectators to such a great display of bowls.

Thanks to Brad for his generous sponsorship and to Brian Crause who worked tirelessly all weekend to run the event.

In club competitions Andrew Walker won his handicap singles game against Denny Denysschen despite trailing for most of the game, and also in handicap singles, William Sithole lost to Rob Troughton. In a very tight second round game for men’s drawn pairs, Greg McLeod and Martin Young lost by one shot to Ken Leech and Vish Studinski.

At TGIF Glen Scorgie won the 100 board, but as Dot Liebetrau was not present to win the attendance draw, the pot goes up to R900 next time. ‘The Damagers’ number came out in the key draw, but Sue Welch was unable to find the right key on their behalf, so that prize is R2,770 this week.

Note that there are men’s competitions carded for Saturday, 9 April, and the PN mixed pairs (the Oppenheimer) competition starts on Sunday, 10 April which will use two full greens at Toti.

Good bowling to all members playing in it. The men’s league draw is also out, so check the notice board for more details of all these events.

Birthday greetings go to Marion Crouch, Mike Morris, Elsie Walker, Stella Erasmus and Sue Blount this week, and get well wishes for a speedy return to health to all who are not well.
