Man survives near drowning at Warner Beach

Although he was unresponsive, medics found he still had a heartbeat.

A 25-year-old man was fortunate to survive a near drowning at Warner Beach after he was caught in a a rip current on Sunday, 27 March.

“Lifeguards managed to pull the man from the water. They got the semi-conscious man onto an inflatable rescue boat immediately and initiated mouth-to-mouth procedures with a vesti mask. Although he was unresponsive, medics found he still had a heartbeat and was breathing,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha.

Paramedics stabilised the man at the scene, before transporting him to a hospital in Umlazi.
