Yvonne elected as AWI president

Norma Veldtman gave a quiz on Valentine's Day, and everyone learnt a thing or two about it while having great fun.

THE annual general meeting of the Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute (AWI) on 8 March was opened by president Muriel Hartwig.

The president then welcomed Robyn Schwikkard, executive member of the Alexandra group, together with all members with a special welcome to visitor Mariet Dove.

Everyone was pleased to welcome the new members of the Twini Park Evening Women’s Institute joining in at Amanzimtoti, and they look forward to a happy association with all members.

The annual report was read, advising the members of all the charities that AWI donated to, as well as the activities and functions attended during 2015.

Muriel thanked the judges for their help in sharing their skills and expertise when judging members’ competition entries. Thank you to Vivienne Jarratt for agreeing to judge the handicraft this year. Congratulations to Sheri Stone on achieving the highest marks for her bag entered in the SAWAU competition..

The committee for the coming year was elected with Yvonne Dixie as president. AWI wishes Yvonne well in her new office and she is assured that members will give her their full support. Robyn Schwikkard thanked Muriel for her dedication and constant help, imparting her valuable knowledge to members of WI.

The WI group AGM will be held on 7 April at 9.30am. After the meeting, members who attend lunch at Lords and Legends would be welcome, subject to the usual tariff.

The speaker this month was AWI’s own member Barbara Lane. Barbara worked for the SABC radio and television on permanent staff and also freelanced for 46 years. Barbara had so many fun stories to relate to the members, which was most enjoyable.
