Water park fun for children’s home

Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre is a residential place of safety that cares for 65 children.

A day of fun in the sun at Splash Water World was enjoyed by the children from Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre, courtesy of the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti on Saturday, 13 February.

“It was wonderful to observe how well the Lions interacted with and entertained the children,” said Ethelbert PRO, Gaylene Allen.

“Thanks to the president of Amanzimtoti Lions, Carol Botha and her team, as well as Richard and Ann Clayton of Splash Water World for entertaining and spoiling the children. The photos I took are proof of how much they enjoyed themselves.”

Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre is a residential place of safety that cares for 65 children who have been placed in care by the children’s court for various reasons.

“Funding from government only covers 35% of what it costs to run a place like Ethelbert. We aim to give the children in our care a healthy social and psychological environment in which to flourish and feel safe to be themselves,” said Allen.

“Partnering with organisations such as the Lions is what mortar is to bricks – they fill the gaps left by the shortfall in government funding and help us to do our job well.”
